Hi,
I am an ESL teacher from the Netherlands, living in Brasil, and I am interested in your course It's English time!
Are the twenty movies with and without subtitles the same (apart from the subtitles)??
Yes , the movies are exactly the same apart from the subtitles. - Diana
Is the course easy enough for beginners?
This is a very good question. Initially I was going to say no, because the videos are full of slang and colloquialisms, but then I remembered Bettina, a student of mine.
She considers herself a beginner and she found that the 8 exercises that accompany each video were easy to follow and allowed her to understand the videos 100% by the time she was finished all 8 exercises.
So, to answer your question I think that you could use these lessons with "motivated" absolute beginners.
It would be a taste of the real world for them. Rather than introducing the them to simple sentences that do not really help them communicate, you could introduce them to a vast selection of expressions, slang and idioms that people use everyday. - Diana
I think there is so much material on the Internet for intermediate students, but not so much for absolute beginners, other than phrases like how are you doing etc, that is ok, but not enough to bring you to the level where you can understand a youtube video with or without subtitles, do you understand what I mean?
I do understand what you mean. It is difficult to create materials for absolute beginners because most people keep things too simple.
In my classes I like to push my students a bit beyond their comfort zones and challenge them. I believe that It's English time! would be a great challenge, with the support of a patience and creative teacher. - Diana
Thanks
Michael
