I was able to provide free proofreading for several months, but unfortunately I had to suspend them.
Helping you Learn English.com receives over 1000 visitors a day and many visitors were participating in these lessons.
I no longer have time to provide the one-to-one attention (it is a shame!)
How can you improve your writing yourself?
1) Always read your work aloud. This helps you to see mistakes when you are proofreading.
2) Edit your work after taking a break. Leave your writing overnight or for 24 hours before you return to it to proofread. This will make your mistakes easier to notice.
Content is important. But like it or not, the way a paper looks affects the way others judge it.
When you’ve worked hard to develop and present your ideas, you don’t want careless errors distracting your reader from what you have to say.
It’s worth paying attention to the details that help you to make a good impression.
Is proofreading actually important? Do grammar and spelling mistakes really matter?
Yes they do! I speak from experience. Yes, I have made typos on this website, in articles and in daily emails.
It is something that I need to improve because mistakes make a big (bad) impression. Especially when you are an English teacher!
When someone reads a letter, resume or anything from you and sees a spelling mistake or a careless typo it makes you seem less intelligent and even lazy.
So take the time to proofread your work, and get someone else to read it as well. Then once you are sure it is perfect then you can submit, send or email your writing.
Don't worry, you can still learn from these lessons. Take a look at what other visitors have submitted in the past. Their work or mistakes can help you correct mistakes that you make as well.
